Southland is New Zealand's southernmost region. The lush, green pastoral lands are a strong contrast to the dryer landscapes of Central Otago.
Landcorp has 15 livestock farms in the region running deer, cattle and sheep. 10,288ha have been retired from grazing, fenced and planted with natural vegetation.
Stuart Farm is a key Landcorp property, situated southwest of Te Anau on 3,057ha of mainly flat to rolling country. The farm has 680 elite breeding hinds and 3,800 commercial hinds and is a demonstration farm for the FarmIQ computer system.
Eweburn has been developed with sustainability and water protection at the forefront. There is extensive covenanted land on the farm protecting a range of high valued areas that also provide shelter for stock and buffers to rivers and streams. There has been excellent retention of native cover in gullies in developed areas that provide shelter, shade and protects the water quality.
The Eweburn team recently won a NZ Landcare Trust Award - for Excellence in Sustainable Deer Farming.
