Hawke’s Bay is blessed with a sunny, Mediterranean-style climate and is one of New Zealand's warmest, driest regions. The backbone of the region is represented by the high, forested Ruahine and Kaweka Ranges. From the mountains, the land steps down towards the coast, flattening out to become the Heretaunga Plains. A number of wide rivers flow to meet the Pacific Ocean.

Landcorp has 10 farms in the region, with 1,256 ha of farmland that has been retired from grazing, fenced and planted with natural vegetation.
