Between the shores of Lake Mahinerangi and underneath the Lammerlaw Ranges sits a picturesque Thornicroft Station. The farm consists cultivated ground dissected by tussock gullies, and climbs to 750m above sea level. The cooler climate means long snow prone winters, but them comes into its own in the late spring and summer. Sheep cattle and deer and all bred and finished at Thornicroft.
Hindon is one of our driest of our Southern farms and as such requires a flexible farming system. The policy is to breed and finish sheep and to finish deer and cattle. It is well contoured country.
Looked after by farm Manager Colin Rakena who has been with Landcorp for 25 years. Key finishing property – a lot of the lambs from Northland end up here for finishing and a lot of the calves are looked after before they are moved to other properties, making it an important part of the Landcorp supply chain.
A stunning sheep and beef property inland from Kaeo. It’s a high performing sheep flock and cow herd. Farm Manager Daniel Lloyd has been on the property for 29 years since he left school.
The property is surrounded by sandy beaches on three sides on the Karikari Peninsula. Scallops blow up onto the beaches and are collected by hand, meaning the farm staff enjoy seafood diet. This is a key property for lamb production across the country.
Dave Vaughan looks after Waipori Station, on the east coast of the lower South Island, with his wife Hayley and two children Ollie and Becky. Dave, along with his 12 staff, care for 30,000 Perendale ewes and 2000 Angus cows.
The farm surrounds Lake Mahinerangi and the upper catchment of the Waitahuna river, making water quality a key focus for all the staff.
This property is located on beautiful river flats settled into the Hanmer Basin and set up to finish the surplus cattle generated from Molesworth Station. The property is prone to summer dry conditions and needs careful management policies.
